Amizmiz my home town where I grew up.

It is located in the foothills of the High Atlas mountains about 56 km south of Marrakech.  It  has fascinating landscape that changes dramaticlley from one angle to another, with many beautiful valleys and a history that dates back to more than eight centuries . It boasts  archeological, natural, and historical treasures.

Amizmiz gives  you an opportunity to discover the rich history , from the first medieval military forts built by the Almoravids in the 11th century to the site of the forest guards built by the French, through the first mines operated in Morocco by the French in 1926. All along the road from Amizmiz to Anougal valley, the ruins of colonial houses reminds you of the existence of the French settlers and soldiers in the High Atlas Mountains.

Get picked up from the riad or hotel in Marrakech at 09h00.

On arrival in the town of Amizmiz, you will  start the guided uphill hike of about one and half hour with a stop for tea in a berber village.  After we head down for an hour’s walk towards  Anougal valley. Here you can savour a traditional tagine lunch in one of the berber homes.

  1. Daniel Moore:

We booked this trip whilst staying at a nearby hotel. Our guide Mouad is from the local area and had a great knowledge of the town, nearby mountain villages and the people. He also speaks excellent English and has a real passion for the area and its people. We really got to experience some of the local culture and lunch in a traditional house in a local village was delicious. I highly recommend this trip.
