Escape the city and experience the breathtaking beauty of the High Atlas Mountains on this unforgettable day trip to Imlil. Just 64 km south of Marrakech, Imlil serves as the gateway to Toubkal National Park, offering a glimpse into traditional Berber culture and stunning mountain landscapes. Pass through the Agafay Desert, visit the serene Lalla Takerkouste Lake, and explore authentic Berber villages, where you’ll be welcomed with traditional mint tea. Take a guided hike or a mule ride through scenic trails, and enjoy a delicious lunch with panoramic views of Mount Toubkal before returning to Marrakech.
Your driver will pick you up from your hotel or riad at 9:00 AM. As you leave the city behind, you’ll journey through the stunning Moroccan countryside, passing through the Agafay Desert, a dramatic, rocky landscape often compared to the moon’s surface. Stop for photos and take in the peaceful atmosphere of this untouched terrain.
Your next stop is Lalla Takerkouste Lake, a tranquil retreat nestled at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains. Enjoy the contrast between the lake’s blue waters and the rugged surroundings, making it a perfect spot for photography. If you’d like, you can also experience a camel ride here, offering a traditional touch to your adventure.
Continuing your journey, you’ll drive through lush valleys and traditional Berber villages, where life has remained unchanged for centuries. If your trip falls on a Saturday, you’ll have the chance to visit the Asni Berber Market, a lively gathering where locals sell fresh produce, handcrafted goods, and spices.
By midday, you’ll reach Imlil, a charming mountain village at the base of Mount Toubkal. Here, you’ll meet your local Berber guide and muleteer, who will accompany you on a scenic hike or mule ride through the Aremd Valley. The village of Aremd is famous for its traditional stone houses, terraced fields, and stunning mountain views.
After exploring the valley, you’ll stop at a local Berber home for a freshly prepared traditional lunch. Enjoy dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, all while taking in the panoramic views of Mount Toubkal.
After lunch, enjoy some free time to soak in the peaceful mountain atmosphere before beginning your drive back to Marrakech. You’ll arrive back at your accommodation in the early evening, carrying memories of breathtaking landscapes and Berber hospitality.

Louise T2024-11-23Verified Personal tour not a tourist trap A throughly enjoyable day in the beautiful Atlas Mountains. We were quite nervous about the term trek but our guide Mouad reassured us. Learning about the country and culture was fascinating. His passion and knowledge of his country and the mountains was evident. The Berber family we visited were so hospitable and provided us with a beautiful meal. We chatted all-day and learned so much. His English was fantastic. The whole tour was very personal it didn’t feel like a manufactured tourist tour. Greg S2024-11-13Verified Superb trek in Morocco A fantastic trek with a superb lunch cooked and eaten in the house of a friendly local family. It was a great day to spend getting to see some of the “real” Morocco. Would definitely recommend this as a trip - far better than lounging around in your hotel! Mark M2024-11-07Verified Half day hike at Amizmiz We went on a half day hike above Amizmiz which was beautiful. Our walking guide Mouad is a truly inspiring individual whose conversation was incredibly engaging. We talked about everything from family life to the earthquake to the history of Morocco to the flora and fauna and so much more! Mouad is a beautiful character whose knowledge of the area was very complete. We returned to our hotel invigorated and excited by the experience. We recommend the morning time when it's cooler (this week was unseasonably hot). The area is stunningly beautiful and our experience unforgettable. Maps8238452024-09-05Verified Atlas Mountain with Mo, James and Flo Mouad was an incredible guide! We had the most amazing experience, trekking through the mountains and the forest with Mo. We also stopped at a local families home to share mint tea and delicious Tagine!Mo explained everything about his country, his hometown, politics and economy, culture and food, the invasion of France and of course how that changed with Morocco gaining independence. It was also incredibly moving to hear what was lost during the earthquake and heart warming to hear how everyone has come together in the wake of it to support and rebuild their communities.Big thank you again for this amazing experience during our honeymoon!
